I hosted this series of workshops at Backlit Gallery in Nottingham in 2019 as part of an ongoing programme of family workshops nurturing creativity in children and families.
The outcomes of the workshops were a series of family totem poles and tapestries that represented each families home and identity coming together at the end of the session as a large collaborative art piece.
In preparation for the workshops, I made simple foam printing blocks featuring different symbols and shapes and used these to produce printed canvas material that could be cut up and used in the sessions.
For the 'Totem Poles' I constructed and sourced cardboard shapes that could be decorated and stacked together, utilising waste material from a local textile factory.
